Any info would be of help. Haven't seen the movie either, but I understand it to be a classic. Thanks.

Yes, it's a very good western, you should definitely see it just to see John Wayne in a more controversial role...

(Now just waiting for classicman to come in here and proclaim it as the best western ever made...)

It's definitely in the western pantheon with Stagecoach, High Noon, The Wild Bunch, and Unforgiven. The Searchers is an intelligent film about racism with no easy answers and iconic imagery (although some scenes were obviously shot on cheap, lame sets, much of the film was shot around Ford's beloved Monument Valley). Can't speak for the disc, but the film is a must see.

The Searchers - simply the finest Western ever made. One of the truly great films of all-time.

It is one of John Wayne's finest performances. The only 2 other performances that would rival his performance in The Searchers were She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and The Shootist.

It's not a perfect film, but it is so close that it doesn't make any difference.

When asked by the reporters, "What brought you to Hollywood?", John Ford replied: "The Train"

My favorite Wayne/Ford film. I believe Wayne said it was his favorite role too. It's one of those films that can be viewed over and over again.

The film has also inspired a number of retellings of the same story including Paul Schader's Hardcore (which is also worth a look-see).

Fans of Star Wars should definitely take a look at this film, which Lucas has acknowledged as an influence on the series, especially the first film.
