Okay. I guess I could have just combined my last two review requests into this one, but it's too late for that now. I've become obsessed with the film noir genre, so I'm looking for reviews of any film noir on DVD you have seen. I'm looking for reviews of thetransfers and the movies themselves. It's not to hard to find reviews of films like "Double Indemnity", so I'm looking for info on some lesser-known titles.

While it hasn't been released yet, Image is releasing Fritz Lang's The Blue Gardenia early next month. It's not his best, but you really can't go wrong.

In an attempt to shameless promote Fritz Lang, you may want to try and rent the following films from your local video store:

Fury
The Big Heat
The Woman in the Window
Scarlet Street
While the City Sleeps

All of which are fabulous film noirs (and in my opinion some of the best ever made). Lang also made a damn fine western with Marlene Dietrich, Rancho Notorious.

Also, while arguably not a film noir, his Hangmen Also Die is on DVD. Though I have it, I haven't yet had the chance to view it (Damn personal life!) (I have seen the film itself and its pretty good.) However, your friend, Heather, does have a review of it at her web site:
http://www.that-movie-site.com/revie...n_Also_Die.htm

Also, I'm pretty sure Orson Welles's The Stranger is out on DVD, though you may have that already.

Sadly, most of the catalog of classic Noir remains unreleased on DVD. Chinatown, The Killing, The Big Sleep, and Maltese Falcon were only recently released. Criterion offers some classics such as “M” and The 3rd Man, but VHS offers your only recourse to see Journey Into Fear, Cape Fear (original), The Night of the Hunter, Touch of Evil, Experiment in Terror, The Wrong Man, . . . . Even fairly recent titles such as Blood Simple (though rumored for 2000), House of Games, Black Widow (border line Noir) sit unreleased on DVD.

Available on DVD and worth seeing: The Grifters, Spanish Prisoner, Body Heat (crappy transfer).

BTW: DVDFile provides a good database of reviews from many sites.

L.A. Confidential?

Or did you mean "good film noir?"
