I'm thinking of getting these to bump my Reel orders up to $25 and get the $10 discount. Has any member bought any of the DVD Short Cinema Journals (volumes 1 to 6)and would you recommend them? I love foreign and arthouse films but I've never ventured into cinema shorts. I tried looking for more info on IMDB or Ebert or Maltin, but it seems the only descriptions I can find are on Reel and other DVD vendors.

Yeah, they're a mixed bag, but if you can find at least 1 short you're interested in, then it's worth it. They have some good stuff, like La Jetee (the basis for 12 Monkeys) and Night and Fog (the most poetic holocaust movie). Cool stuff, if you're interested in obscure shorts and subject matter.

I bought the first one and I really liked it. Sure, there are a few things on there that weren't exactly my cup of tea, but there was a pretty cool Short on Henry Rollins and then there was the short that was the springboard for Sling Blade...and then there was Mr. Resistor, which is a pretty cool stop motion short from the guy who brought us the California Raisins...I can't speak for all of them, but #1 is definitely worth checking out in my opinion

If you like shorts, this is a great series. But it is uneven.
I thought the first release of #1 was spectacular. But the cheeper re-release drops a number of very good moments (John Lee Hooker and the one about the girl into sci-fi).
#6 was a dog.
#4 has some good moments.
#2 looks good so far but I am not done.

Some viewers were disappointed by the first release of Short# 2 as it contained only the dubbed English track of La Jetee instead of the original French one. Would anyone know if this was remedied in the new release?
