Has anyone seen Virus, is it good enough to buy a dvd. Is it kind of "B" type movie with cheap plot and effects or like "aliens" type quality.

Also, when a dvd has dts sounds, what does that mean over another version with just digital dolby. Thanks

I rented this a few weeks ago and hated it. Donald Sutherland playing some kind of pirate was just too goofy for my tastes.

iamhere -- Definitely RENT this before you buy. The premise was okay, but man did the story degenerate as it went along. Toward the end, it was just plain stupid. You know, never mind, even the premise was kind of stupid too. A low point in Donald Sutherland's career. Just a paycheck for all the actors.

I like Jamie Lee, but like all the actors, she didn't give this film much effort. And she was dirty the whole movie and wore the same clothes, so if you're hoping for a gorgeous Jamie Lee like in True Lies, you'll be disappointed. {edit: oops, sorry, I assumed you were male}

They spent a great deal of cash on special effects, and if you watch the movie ONLY to appreciate the effects, then you'll be okay as the effects were decent. The robotics they built and employed were pretty impressive.

Yeah I agree this movie was crap.

Can't these stars see this goin' in?

Or do they get a sick feeling in the stomach during filming but figure they can't get out of their contract?

I was very happy that I rented this DVD from Netflix first. It's hard to imagine that actors like Jamie Lee Curtis, William Baldwin, and Donald Sutherland would make such crap!!!

Although Universal did an outstanding job with the DVD, it could not save the movie itself. The story was terrible and special effects were nothing special.

There are scenes in this movie that were meant to be taken seriously, but I couldn't help laughing uncontrollably. It was funny to me!!! It's more of a comedy than a sci-fi.

This is up there with "Wing Commander" as the worst movie of the year, in my opinion.

A few interesting f/x scenes and a good cast unfortunately can`t save this film. I didn`t hate it, but it certainly wasn`t very good.

This one is a stink-fest. Avoid at all costs. Heck- go see Bats before you see Virus.

Yes, it is bad - very bad. One of the few films I couldn't continue watching(and as a huge film buff, that says a lot!). Glad it was a friend's DVD and not mine.

DO NOT BUY!!! IT'S TRASH!!! YOU ARE BETTER OFF WATCHING BRADY BUNCH OR GOMER PYLE... ON TV WITHOUT AC-3 SOUND.

Don't bother. It really is crap. Just read all the other posts. And another piece if crap is the Blair Witch Project. Don't bother on either of these two.

If you like B-movies with big-budgets, Virus is good. Good special effects (a lot like Deep Rising), a potential story (taken from Alien), and Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland (taken from much better films).
The DVD has some good extras and was worth the $.99 rental price, but I wouldn't buy it.
Also, it's one of the few DVD's that give my Zenith 2200 any problem - several skips and slow-downs.

I saw a 1997 flick (I won't call it a film), called The Haunted Sea. It also had Joanna Pacula, and the story was almost identical to Virus: small craft finds abandoned larger boat with deadly creature aboard, and so on. The only advantage it had was that it earned it's R-rating the old-fashioned way, with nudity and not just blood.
