If you have a TV that can do anamorphic, this has got to be the DVD to get to show off your system. This is a 2 DVD set, the first with the actual movie, and the 2nd DVD containing information regarding the making of the movie and the making of the DVD.
The quality of the transfer is spectacular, and it's no wonder... apparently this is the first digital to digital DVD transfer ever made, and it shows. On my TW40X81 TV, the quality was superb -- 3D is the only way to describe it, like you could reach into the set and pick up the characters.
Dolby Digital is amazing with excellent use of all the channels, and transition between the channels is extremely smooth.
Regardless of whether you liked the movie, seeing this on a hi-def 16x9 anamorphic set is a real treat for the eyes.

This dvd is incredible! I bought the first
Bug's Life when it came out and have watched
it numerous times. When I first saw this
anamorphic transfer it was like watching a
brand new movie. Even when downconverted for regular tv size, this movie just stands out.
I notice things I never did before, like the
sparkle in the bugs eyes, background details,
even the sound is better! To top it all off,
I used a $20 gift certificate at buy.com, got free shipping, sold my other bug's life for $8 so I ended up spending two bucks!
My one question is, do any of you notice
different shots in this new version? Either
this is the original and the letterbox was
modified somewhat or Pixar did some tweaking.
I know while I was watching, I kept saying
to myself "That shot was'nt in the other
version! or Princess Atta never did that."
Anyone else have the same feeling?

I am not sure if there is any appreciable difference in the 4:3 mode. But the 16:9 anamorphic side has significantly more resolution than the older non-SE version.
Both transfers (SE and non-SE) are pristine digital-to-digital transfers, so in that respect, you can't really get any better than that.
