Really looking forward to seeing this one. One of the best shootouts! And of course to see Deniro and Pacino and one of my favorites who is coming on strong here lately, Tom Sizemore.

I have wanted this film on disc ever since I knew that there was a thing called DVD. This is truly a great film. One thing did bother me though, and that was the cheap price on it. I just get worried when I am expecting to pay $20, and the price through Reel.com is only $11.99.

I completely agree with Morpheus and Mike Meeks. The gunfight in the street scene is incredible. Can't wait to hear it on my system! Pacino and De Niro in the same movie. And $11.99 at Reel for an anamorphic DVD, it doesn't get any better than this!

Why do most people seem to love the soundtrack? It didn't really move me too much, but I did think it fit the tone of the movie.
What I DID like is the death-metal like fast paced guitar stuff over the slow keyboard synth stuff (pardon my layman's termin.). At low volumes made for even more tension.
As a composition, it's nothing! (Kind of like Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire"), but nonetheless, it worked for the flick.

Heat was intended to look like it does, I saw this movie in the theater, and to me this is one of the best looking DVD's I have seen picture wise. The picture was perfectly clear and looks amazingly exactly as it was intended and was in the theater. I think Michael Mann intentionaly shoots his films this way. Just my 2 cents.

Am I on crack? I would have sworn there was a scene at the end of this movie when I first saw it on VHS where Val Kilmer's character 'got away' with the girlfriend.

Kilmer does get away, but without the lovely Ashely Judd at his side. That's the way it was in the theater, and that's the way it is on home video. You may have to consider the possibility that you are, in fact, on crack.

Well, all I have to say is, if I'm on crack, it wasn't nearly as good as I had hoped!
At least now I don't have that 'WB cheated me on my DVD' feeling, I instead have that 'My old brain is fading to dust' feeling.

"Best looking DVD"?? I must disagree. The was some exceptionally notable pixellation on this disc. Not to the point where it really annoys, but it's not up to the pristine clarity that you've come to expect from most recent big studio discs. No way. I think the long running time had something to do with it

ipkevin's right, Heat is not that great looking as a DVD, I would not say it was well-mastered video-wise. But it's still good enough to enjoy, just not reference level video quality. Not a bad flick, but again, it' yet another too long movie by Michael Mann, who needs a better editor to make him punch up his screenplays and cut out some fat in his films.

Personally, I didn't have much of a problem with the DVD transfer. One thing I can say unequivocably is that the DVD transfer is far superior to the laserdisc, much more so than a direct comparison between most other titles, so I'm quite happy.
