I had heard some bad things about the La Femme Nikita DVD, but it turns out that the disc is actually quite tolerable. The picture is non-enhanced widescreen and is set slightly high on the screen rather than dead centre. There is some aliasing and an occasional bit of grain, but on the whole it looks pleasing to the eye. I do see how some might complain, though - It doesn't have the vibrant, razor-sharp look seen on the best transfers. But still, I think it succeeds in proving once again that discs which get bad marks from the DVD reviewers still usually look damn fine all things considered.

It defaults to French surround soundtrack + English subtitles. The subs are in the black area below the picture. The English surround dub is also included, which is a cool addition IMHO. I expected only one or the other. I also like how the subs turn off the moment you switch to the English dub.

Overall, I think it's worth getting if you're a fan of the movie. The DVD is reasonably priced and is a good presentation of the film. I hadn't watched it in years, so seeing it again was quite interesting. I like it a lot more now than I did when I was a kid. That insane opening sequence doesn't disturb me as much anymore.

Good points. I've probably been guilty of making this disc seem worse than it is. You have to admit, though, that the restaurant assassination scene could've been so incredible if the disc were of higher quality - the detail and colors of the restaurant were beautiful, but looked too digitized and jaggy on DVD. But the flick is great and the disc is worth it.
