Who's making these? Quality? Extras?

Man I'd love to see a box set of all his silent feature films.

Thanks

Kino is making them, distributed by Image, same as the "Art of Buster Keaton" laserdisc box sets.

The video quality was just barely better than the laserdiscs. I really had to look closely to discern any more detail.

There are no extras except that each of the three discs contains 2 shorts in addition to the feature. Navigating to the shorts is inconvenient in the menu, and at first glance it looks like the shorts aren't even there.

Another small disappointment is that the essays are omitted.

Note that three more Keaton discs were just announced on November 1st, to be released January 11th. Each disc will have a feature and 2 or 3 shorts (a total of 7 shorts for the 3 discs).

So far that's 6 features and 13 shorts. The "Art of Buster Keaton" laserdisc box sets had a total of 10 features and 20 shorts (counting the 44 minute "Sherlock, Jr." as a short). At this rate I hope it won't be too long before all of Keaton's independent work is on DVD.

First, I never owned any laser discs so I can't comment on video quality other than it's better than VHS. But I ought to warn you that the organ score on 'Steamboat Bill Jr' has audible tape hiss. I must assume that this was the best available score for this movie and was used because it was performed by the legendary Gaylord Carter.

Second, four DVDs will be released 11/23 featuring 'The Navigator', 'Go West', 'Three Ages', 'Our Hospitality' and 'Sherlock Jr.' and six two-reelers. When 'College', 'The Saphead', and 'Seven Chances' are released in January, the entire 'Art of Buster Keaton' series will be available on DVD and will include all of his silent features except for 'The Cameraman' and 'Spite Marriage' which were done for MGM after Buster sadly gave up his freedom.

This is a good time for Keaton fans! Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd have a lot of catching up to do!
