SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET: Go climb a Mountain with Brad Pitt!

If you ever start feeling sorry for yourself, or if your wife accuses you of being insensitive or arrogant, take a few hours and go to Tibet with Brad Pitt and company. It will change your life, short of climbing one of the tallest mountains in the world.
This film also coincides with other DVD pieces out on the market. It’s a dramatic and soul-searching story of how arrogance met it’s match . . . and still survived.
Just back from the Far East with a second viewing,
Jeremy

C'mon guys. So this should be in the Reviews forum, but why all the bashing? I also love this movie and it is one of my favorite VHS movies. I look forward to getting it on DVD when I finally get my CC bills paid off (yeah right
).

This is an okay flick, although I prefer Pitt's druggie/psycho roles(Twelve Monkeys, True Romance)! I've always said that I respect Brad Pitt for not cashing in on all the People magazine hype and taking a bunch of romantic dramas or something. Sure, he has to pay the bills, but someday I think that he'll really suprise us with a very strong performance out of left field.
From a recent Conalogue:
"During a recent interview, Brad Pitt complained to a reporter that there is too much focus in America on wealth and external beauty. Then Pitt jumped in his Porche and sped home to have sex with Jennifer Aniston."

I see nothing wrong with Jeremy's thread (now that is has been moved). If nothing else, it might spark some conversation about this movie, and at a minimum, is certainly better than some of the "reviews" posted here. Jeremy, when you do these reviews, you might also comment on the DVD too -- quality, features, etc. These are important to DVD buyers.
As someone who has actually climbed in the Nepal/Tibet region, I was really looking forward to this movie. Unfortunately, it didn't do a good enough job of capturing the feel of the region IMHO, and so I was disappointed.
I found the movie itself fine, but not compelling enough to rave about. I own the movie, but only because it came as part of the Brad Pitt double feature, which was only slightly more expensive than Legends by itself. Otherwise, I would have passed. As such, the DVD hasn't made it into my player yet, but someday I'll get around to it...

Well . . . I didn't see myself reviewing the film. I was talking about the affect this film has on personal behavior, until our two comrades (within minutes of each other) blasted the topic and hollared to have it thrown out of the general discussion area.
And there appears to be a double standard going on . . . with several other similar topics that remain there.
If I were going to do a review, it would have less personal commentary.

Yeah, Jer, I understand what you're saying, but it still seems like a review of sorts. Not the typical review, I know. You were looking at the movie from a different angle. Perhaps you will want to say that next time so as to avoid any confusion for the moderator. Well anyway, the movie had no effect on my personal behavior because it fell short of my memories of the area, but it's great the movie was that significant for you.
BTW, have you ever been in the Himalayas? If not, hiking in the region is truly an experience you'll treasure for the rest of your life.

I have hiked Black Mountain, the Sierras, the Bob Marshall . . . and numerous trips to Glacier National Park. Mostly stuff under 12,000 feet . . . not like you have.
The solitude of snuggling in a warm bag under a star lit night . . . will keep me up for hours watching shooting stars and the galaxies beyond. It makes me feel SO small, and tempers my selfishness. (I once offered to climb a mountain with some folks on this board . . . but they declined. You come away with a feeling of dependence . . . instead of independence.)

Eclipse, I doubt you would have gotten that response if you didn't post something negative (and usually in vague enough terms that one can claim it isn't a personal attack) in every Jeremy thread.
As RichardDVD said, down boys. If the negative banter continues I'm closing the thread. This is a place to discuss your thoughts on a film in a civilized manner, without dragging your personal feelings about other members into it. This applies to everyone posting here. If you have a problem with this you can e-mail me directly.

Heather -- I'm a little confused by "This applies to everyone posting here." Sounds like an indirect reference to us all, which would seem to be unfair.
Jeremy -- I'm with you on the fact that the solitude of hiking in the wilderness has a major impact on you. It really brings an inner peace that is next to impossible in everyday life. That, coupled with the mysticism of the Nepal/Tibet area makes the Himalayas special.

DarkElf,
Saying "everyone" is just a way of not having to name the few members who haven't been too nice to each other. However, I do not understand why my use of the word "everyone" would be considered unfair, as it is used in the following context :
There has lately been an increase of negative posts directed towards specific members in the reviews forum. Those who have made them are probably aware of who they are, and those who haven't done so know they haven't, but we all know nonetheless that personal attacks (and yes, I know the remark that brought this whole part of the conversation had no name attached to whom it was directed towards) aren't tolerated and I was simply reiterating that. At any rate, I apologize if anyone is offended by that.

Okay, that's cool Heather. You did chastise in general, requoted "down boys", and used "everyone" in the same breath, so it seemed possible that you interpreted my post(s) as a personal attack. Just wanted to make sure because my posts for Jeremy were friendly and sincere. I feel better now...

Stephen . . . solace is great when taken in doses.
Having a bigger-than-life home theater allows great escapes from the city at times. Get's the itch going again to go rough it.

GotDVD . . . you wrote:

ANSWER: I'd just as soon as not have you respond to anything I author . . . at all. You're not a moderator . . . but you have every right to continue email campaigns to correct the "injustices" you feel are so intolerable. I suggest you continue to do what you do with the private emailing . . . and just ignore me . . . completely, including any and all topics that I author. Let the moderators deal with my foolish ways.

As for anyone else who despises my participation so much . . . including the supporting repliers made at: Comments . . . obviously you folks have found another platform elsewhere to continue your agenda. Let’s not pretend anymore and just part company altogether. Just keep to yourselves and ignore “this old fool and all of his topics”.

Heather . . . care to climb a mountain with Brez, Stephen , and me? I'll bring my wife to chaperon the oxygen tanks.

Does that mean that I am not invited either???
Jeremy, how about you just make a list of people you don't want to reply to anything you post and keep that ongoing list at the bottom of every post you create.
Thanks
Eclipse
p.s. Whoops, almost forgot: Seven Years In Tibet put me to sleep the first time I tried watching it. However, once I was able to get thru the entire movie, which took about a week, I found some sort of appreciation for it. There, kinda kept it on-topic.
Now how about that list???

Now that gotdvd, eclipse, and jerry g. are posting the same thing in every Jeremy thread I've been to today, I don't see a need for any more similar posts to be made in this thread. Your message is clear, and this is not the place to continue it.
