I'm considering purchasing these two from Reel ($20 GC). Haven't seen either one at theatre or on DVD. Thanks for your Reviews and opinions.

Big Daddy is another Adam Sandler movie. If you like him you'll like it. If not, oh well. He has no range and does nothing but try to appeal to the same crowd again and again.

I suggest you rent both of these before you buy them. I just rented the 13th Floor this past week and liked it ok. I saw Big Daddy at the theater once and it didn't live up to my expectations. The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore are better. Big Daddy isn't going to be anamorphic either, so that clinches it for me(not to buy it). I might rent it once to see if I like it any better the second time but I definitely won't buy it.

Big Daddy is pretty bad, but it is a hell of a lot better than The Waterboy, which was the worst movie I'd seen in theatres since Batman Forever.

Mechazilla,

I thought I saw the specs for Big Daddy on the Laserviews site and since its a Fox title I assumed it was non amamorphic. Although, I did here Patton and Thin Red Line are 16 x 9.

John, just to clear things up, Big Daddy is a Columbia TriStar DVD, not Fox, so it will most definitely be anamorphic.

Can anyone who has seen "The 13th Floor" DVD comment on what they thought of the video/audio quality?

Both good movies - Big Daddy pretty funny, commonplace Sandler movie. 13th Floor, very good, but released at a bad time (circa Matrix and eXistenZ).

I thought "The Thirteenth Floor" was decent, but not much better than an episode of "The Outer Limits" on Showtime.

Like some earlier people said, Big Daddy is typical Sandler (not as bad as Waterboy, in which his act wore thin real quick)...This could even be considered "serious" in terms on Sandler movies, because it does make an attempt to deal with some real issues (parenting and relationships) other than the normal brainless Sandler fair.. The more Sandler I see, the more I realize his movies are best seen with a bunch of friends.. there is no other way I would ever try to just watch Sandler by myself, thats why I stay away from his DVDs, but if you are a fan I recommend Big Daddy... It is not just simply moranic, but is instead moranic with some messages...

I recommend Big Daddy if u r a Sandler fan. It's lighter, less in your face than his other movies, and definitely sweeter, an obvious attempt to appeal to the ladies. I like it a lot, and expect to like it more with each viewing. Such is often the case for me with Sandler movies. You start to notice funny things you didn't B4. Also, at the price Reel has it, it's a real steal.
Go 4 it

I just rented Thirteenth Floor, and wow, I really liked it. Yes, its another reality bending movie, and The Matrix was better, but still, this is a really enjoyable movie. The plot twists were very cool and not always predictable, and for me, a second watch is a must so that I can pick up all the tidbits I missed the first time around. Considering how much the critics panned it, I was pleasantly surprised.

Video quality was typical of Columbia -- OUTSTANDING! 5.1 audio wasn't used extensively, but there were definitely moments when the mix was great. Very deep, house shaking bass in some parts. Defaults to 2.0, so make sure you change it to 5.1.

Extras are okay, but for a special edition, it isn't packed. Nice music video for The Cardigans' "Erase/Rewind", which is a great song. Audio commentary track. Some effects piece. Stills, I think. 1 trailer for 13th Floor, and 1 trailer each for 3 other movies. Cast & crew is lame lame lame though!

I'll definitely be buying this when I can get it for under $10. That won't be too hard since it lists for $25. If you're into sci-fi, and liked The Matrix, then Thirteenth Floor is worth at least a rental.

Rent the movies first, i know everyone has that logic "WELL IF I can get it cheap enough then it's not much more than renting " that's b.s. If you get the occasional stinker than your average is gone, buying one stinker is one too many. Both movies suck btw.
