DVD Talk Legend
After almost a month, Reel finally delivered my NotLD: 30th Anniversary DVD. I know others have already complained about this title, but I wanted to add my voice to the discussion.
When I heard that they were going to not only add 15 minutes of newly-filmed footage to this film, but also REMOVE some footage, re-edit the picture, and add a new score and sound effects, the purist in me cringed.
Over time, I recovered and decided that it would be an interesting "coversation piece" -- it wasn't going to replace the original, but rather give me a different take on the same material. Could actually be interesting. I thought I was going into it with an open mind...
What a disaster.
The new footage adds nothing to the story (it *ALL* feels like padding) and the dialog and acting is absolutely terrible. Terrible. To say it detracts from the film is an understatement. Additionally, the score is not to my liking either. Sometimes it isn't too bad, but at others (like when Barbara flees the first zombie), the pacing is terrible. Yuck.
I suppose I have 2 requests of other DVDTalk people. 1) If you're interested in this film, please go to Netflix and rent it first. I feel that Anchor Bay should really not receive any additional $$ for this travesty. 2) Someone (Sonic?) was saying how they thought NotLD was a terrible movie after only seeing the 30th Anniversary edition. Make sure not to judge NotLD by this "version" -- it isn't NotLD. Not by a long shot. Rent or buy the Elite DVD version, which is the only acceptable version on DVD.
I feel dirty having paid money for this.
