DAMN!!! I saw this film in theaters, but forgot how I felt after I saw it the first time. After tonight, I remember. I made a mistake by renting this great film and not buying it. This one is worth checking out! I'm not even done looking at all the extras yet!!

I was glad to read that it had knocked Titanic from the #1 spot on sales. I hope that no Disney animated title comes close to the success of Prince Of Egypt as I ordered it primarily to stick it to Disney by supporting someone else. And, of course, my daughter really likes it.

Well, I guess I'll be the lone dissenting voice amongst a cacophony of accolades.
I saw this movie in the theater last December and was completely and utterly bored throughout. Maybe it's because I've seen The Ten Commandments like almost every Easter Sunday of my entire life. The animated version of Moses just doesn't compare well to Charlton Heston's portrayal. And there just wasn't much new here at all. The result: boring! Yes, the animation is really quite exceptional in several places, but it just wasn't enough to make this an enjoyable movie for me.
The DVD supplements sound awesome. Too bad the movie isn't as good as the supplements, IMHO.

I can understand Ed sabol's reaction, but I believe that the movie is different in one aspect if not more. The Prince of Egypt focused a lot more on the inner turmoil of Moses and Ramses trying to come to terms that their worst enemy is their brother. The dvd is awesome, I even believ that it is better than the Matrix.

I also found The Prince of Egypt boring. The animation was ground breaking, but sadly, the movie stuck to the same, tired Disney formula.
I also found the extreme ethno-centrism of the picture disturbing. First, the movie respectfully presents Moses, a grown man, speaking to shrubbery. In the same breath, however, it portrays the Egyptian priests as con-men. The, "my magic is better than your magic," theme runs throughout The Prince of Egypt. This sentiment seemed absurd to me and the movie could easily have done without it.
If you aren't an animation junky, I would definitely rent this movie before buying.

Moses was trying to show that GOD of HIS people WAS/IS better than anything the Egyptians were worshipping!
I know it's not politically correct but again it is a JUDEO-CHRISTIAN story(true story for those of us who believe)!

Nonsense. It isn't a question of "political correctness," it's a question of respect. I realize the judeo/christian religion is intolerant of other belief systems, but it could have been dealt with a lot more tactfully.
Or, it could have been avoided altogether. The funny thing is that the only real reason this was in the movie at all, was so some Disney-esque bad guys could be inserted. The movie would have been vastly improved if it had dealt with the more interesting relationship between the brothers.
It is unfortunate that The Prince of Egypt tried so hard to imitate a Disney movie. It had real potential to be something more.

It was OK. The important thing was my kid liked it. But I thought the songs with female singers were very Disney-ish...no surprise since two of my least favorites were doing the singing...Houston/Carey.
On the religious angle, I agree with Al Infinitum. I was more interested in the brother-brother relationship.

Anyway, I saw the film this morning and it was breathtaking and for me a very emotional
experience! How could a person of Faith watch this and NOT have an emotional revelation based on the subject matter.
I even went back and read the original story in EXODUS.....

I was offering my opinion because people in this thread are recommending The Prince of Egypt as a movie, not as a religious experience. As a movie, it has some significant flaws and was not (in my opinion) all that entertaining.
Religion is a very personal thing. I'm not going to knock this movie based on my beliefs. At the same time, though, I would not recommend this movie to a general audience.
