Review: Office Space

Office Space
This is a wonderfully satire of today's corporate environment. It captures the essence of working in an office, and for those who have never worked in this type of atmosphere before might have a tough time relating to the humor. For those of us who know all too well what the corporate workplace is about, this movie is a laugh riot.
The transfer is pretty clean, some specks here and there (similar to the Truman Show) but overall good. The lighting is good and it has just the right amount of exposure.
The sound is excellent, there's lots of woofer for the rap oriented soundtrack. Good seperation, a mainly dialogue oriented movie with no special effects etc.
The DVD is from Fox, so there's no extras, none. Well, OK there is a trailer and some weak actor profiles. The best part is the "virus" you get at the begining. Don't worry, it's just a joke, the DVD simulates a virus.
Overall a great movie, the disc isn't anything to go nuts about but if you liked the movie it's probably worth a spot on your DVD rack.

I rented this recently and enjoyed it very much. I watched it with a friend and we laughed a lot. In fact, after the movie was over, we re-watched certain scenes several times and laughed really hard for like 15 minutes straight. The scene that really got us was the guy who tried to sell magazine subscriptions to the main characters. That whole scene was one of the funniest I've seen all year. And Gary Cole as the boss is really great. ("Um, yeah, could you make sure that all your T-13 forms include the cover sheet from now on? OK, thanks.")
Also, all the menus are great. These are some of the best menus I've seen on a DVD in a long time. The simulated computer virus when you insert the DVD is very cool. And there are these Post-It notes hanging all over the place which are kind of funny.
Thumbs up.

Ed, agreed those are nice menus but to me I don't take menus into consideration that much for the worth of a disc. My favorite menus of all time are from Babe pig in the city, and Dark City. Titanic has a very nice intro along with Matrix. The worst menus are those ugly template looking menus found on the Dracula disc and Dr. Strangelove disc. I just wished this disc included a music video or two (damn it feels good to be a gansta) along with an audio commentary from Mike Judge. Damn Columbia pictures spoils me!

I just got this disc today, and it looks great to me. I do wish there were some extras, though. Judging from his talk show appearances, Mike Judge seems to be very down to earth and genuinely funny, so I bet he'd give good commentary. I also wish that they had included the original "Milton" animated shorts from MTV's "Liquid Television". Stephen Root did a great job of capturing the spirit of the "original" Milton!
