Just rented it yesterday, it was a good movie and good video quality for the time the film was made. I personally like the role of Ed Harris in this movie. It is not a great action film, but more of an historical film about the beginning of the space program at NASA. It's not the kind of movie that I
would watch over and over again, but it was worth renting.

Well, it's not too hideous that the disc is a flipper since on VHS it's two tapes. It's just a long movie. I really like the movie, and actually saw it in a theater a couple of years ago. Don't know about the DVD though.

I think they did a pretty good job on the DVD, considering this was one of the early releases. Movie wise this is one of my all-time favorites. I think it definately holds up to many repeated viewings. A real epic with a great cast, great dialogue, and genuine humor. You just feel good watching it because it represents everything movies should be but rarely are. Definately should have won Best Picture. I think "Terms of Endearment" beat it out. What a crock.

I think the movie is great too. They make up for the fact you have to flip with a ton of little tidbits about the space program etc. The cast is phenomenal and it really helps you appreciate how hard it was to launch a space program. If you liked this movie you should read the book Space by James Michner. Does basically the same thing of detailing the rise of the space program by telling stories about people. Great read.

I really enjoyed this movie. It is a pretty accurate ac**** of the US Space progam and enjoyable to watch. It being a flipper is not a big issue ... this is a LONG movie. Most likely, you would want to take a break in the middle of it anyways. This, combined with From Earth to the Moon and the Apollo 13 SE make for a great "space" collection on DVD.
Next, I'll have to check out Criterion's "For All Mankind".
