I hear that this movie is out on DVD... is that so? If so and if you have it... what is it like in video and sound quality?

It's scheduled to street 9/7 on DVD.

There's a LD available with lots of extras that won't be on the DVD (sob).

I don't think anyone's seen the DVD yet, but given the quality of the other MP movies (Life of Brian and the other one) it will be a little better or the same as the LD transfer.

Blade,

Out of curiousity, what extras does the LD have? Deleted scenes and commentary?

It has commentary, a deleted scene edited back into the film, a REALLY cool segment where they show a scene in Japanese, with English subtitles. You can (on the analog audio track) turn the english back on, and see (via the subtitles in this one scene)how far the translation of comedy can go bad. Also, they have the entire Japanese soundtrack on one analog channel, which is very entertaining.

I can't believe it.. this movie was just pathetic!! I finally saw the darn movie... I bet it was a hit back in the 70's and 80's but geez.. What's with the ending? I guess some people do like movies like this.

Considering this is the greatest comedy of all-time, I can`t help but wonder what you consider funny?

Greatest comedy of all time? Hmmm... My reaction to Monty Python and the Holy Grail is that its individual _scenes_ are very funny, very quotable... but as a whole the movie is only so-so, and yes the ending is a let-down.

Personally I'm more looking forward to the DVDs of the actual television show seasons...

Hmm, this might be a SPOILER of sorts if you haven't seen MP&THG...

For me, the ending was, to some extent, reminiscent of Blazing Saddles.

The ending was brilliant! How many Hollywood films would have the balls to do that? NONE.

Ok.. so the ending I saw WAS the true ending. After shutting off the system... went to catch some zzzzzzz's and went to work... I thought to myself... (was that REALLY the ending??) You know.. the begining I did enjoy. I enjoyed the parts where it says that certain people causing the problems at the beginning were being sacked.. and the ones being sacked where sacked by the ones that were doing the sacking... ahhh something like that. But from something like that in the beginning I figured that the ending could be just like the beginning.. something you wouldn't expect. Then if you saw this at a theatre you would be just about out the door and something happens in the movie.... the show goes on! I think that would be a better ending than just cutting off like it did.

You are right though... in a way that is a good ending. Nobody else would have the guts to pull that one off.

Is it me (I know I'm setting myself up), but did the transfer look a bit murky? Very dark in nearly all the scenes to me.

The only parts I really liked in the whole movie was the part with the monks bashing their heads with a piece of wood and the sword fight near the beginning with two knights and then the King. That's it... that's all.

You still didn`t answer my question. If you don`t find this funny, what is your idea of a funny film? Just curious.

Yes, the transfer of the film was very dissapointing. I seem to remember that this film has always looked this way, but I still expected more from Columbia/Tristar.
