I grabbed a copy of the Desperado/El Mariachi Director's Double Feature DVD while I was out for lunch between classes at the university today. Now, when I first saw Desperado when it first came out on video awhile ago I LOVED it. The first thing I did was to check out the sundance film El Mariachi which is the first in the series and directed by Robert Rodrigruez with a $7,000 budget I believe. That is besides the point. The movie itself was very interesting and good. The only thing that got me was that on that side of the DVD disc for El Mariachi it starts in Commentary mode everytime (that could just be my player so who knows). After shutting off commentary mode I was in for the ride. I loved the movie! The sound and transfer was very good. Also included on the El Mariachi side of the disc is an Award Winning short film the director did (not telling you what it is - buy it!), plus a commentary too.

Now on to Desperado. I thought this was a great addition to my collection! After seeing it on VHS I was surprised at the great quality as well as the improvement in the sound! I had the bass up there just to let you know ;o) The main extra that I really liked and was very interesting to watch was a feature called "Anatomy of a Shootout" - it was good. They showed how the cast and crew went about setting up the scenes for the shootouts and the pre-screenings for them. I liked it.

All in all I thought this was a great deal for the 2 movies together. And for those of you who like good action (mixed with nice gun scenes and "poetry" and slow motion similar to John Woo films) this is a great addition to a collection. If there is anyone who would like to add their 2 cents PLEASE DO! I am very interested in hearing what you have to say!
