My partner and I rented In Dreams on Saturday night. I am a big fan of Neil Jordan, the director of Crying game, Butcher Boy, and Interview with a Vampire.
Annette Benning plays a woman who has visions or dreams of children in an apple field. Adiam Quinn plays her pilot husband. She discovers that she has these dreams of lost children and possibly of the person holding the children hostage. Of course, no one believs her until tragedy falls on her family.
Then Annette goes completely insane. Her dreams are being controlled by Robert Downy Jr. RDJR is not really in the film till towards the end of the movie.
While not a big fan of Annette Benning, she really made this movie interesting for me. She was able to take this character of hers into so many levels emotion.
I felt Robert Downey Jrs charcter was underwritten. Stephen Rae shows up to play a mind doc.
The ending is maybe a little silly, but the majority of the movie will definately keep you interested as Annette Benning tries to find the meaning of the madness in her dreams..
Its definately worth a rental.

I know I suck at writing reviews, but I am trying..

I liked this movie a lot. It doesn't always work but the performances and especially the imagery of an underwater town are very memorable. If you like Neil Jordan's other films like "The Butcher Boy" and "Company of Wolves" then seek it out because it plays along the same narrative territory of fantasy/reality, madness/sanity.
Now if only Warner Bros. would get around to releasing "The Butcher Boy" to DVD.

...and if only the "Butcher Boy" DVD would include audio commentary by Neil Jordan. Of couse, that won't happen.

Actually, I found it a touching movie. Annette Benning can scream in my ear anytime. Kinda made me sad. I kept thinking if she were real, she would have dreamed about JFK and prevented that horrible tragic accident.
