Bottom line: Very entertaining little movie about high school life and football. My friends and I loved it. The story centers around a small Texas town which lives for its championship high school football tradition. The parents, convenience shops, teenage girls, and even the cops seem to worship the players. The win-at-all-costs coach is played well by Jon Voight, and the star of the film is the backup-QB-turned-starter-who-cares-more-about-life-than-football (James Van Der Beek of "Dawson's Creek"). The plot isn't spectacular, but there is enough humor, fun, and pigskin to carry the film. The game sequences are exciting and are reminiscent of "The Program". The DVD transfer is excellent, while the sound is just ok. During games, the crowd noise is enveloping but, absent the scene where Billy Bob fires a shotgun, I didn't notice the 5.1 being utilized too much. In closing, don't take this film too seriously and you'll have a blast. If you like football, crazy kids, and fast teenage girls wearing whip-cream bikinis, buy this DVD.

I agree pretty much in whole to the above post. I think the movie itself is very entertaining, although so much more SHOULD have been done with the audio. The video transfer does look great, but there many wasted opportunities in terms of making my apartment shake with audio. That's half the fun. All in all, a good DVD purchase. Great movie.

I agree . . .
Having played high school football in a similar environment, where the town lived and breathed football, I enjoyed every second of this DVD.
This movie had me reminiscing about my high school days . . . the grueling practices, the Friday night games, the parties, and the ladies!!!

I enjoyed the film, but I think it was shot too much like a music video than a valid piece of cinema.
Anamorphic transfer looks good. Sound is dd5.1 and sounds good, although not much LFE present.
(BTW my roommate bought it.. in case you were wondering)
