I can forgive the mono and the full-screen as something Kubrick preferred, but was it his choice to use such a dreadful print? Now I'm afraid to check out the other six movies in the collection.

All of the titles in the collection are supposed to be of fairly low quality. I'm glad I didn't purchase the shining--I had a $10 coupon at amazon, and was going to preorder, but thankfully I got Analyze This instead.

Actually, he did supervise and approve these transfers-3 years ago!
These are the old LD (I think LD) transfers and the higher detail that dvd provides can also result in emphasizing a transfers bad qualities.
Hopefully they will get around to doing all of his films justice sometime in the future.

I thought both "2001" and "A Clockwork Orange" were decent. Certainly not stunning, but decent. I haven`t got around to watching "The Shining" or "Full Metal Jacket" yet.

I am going to be very selfish about this but, I love Full Metal Jacket and the Shining, and the DVD's are crap. I waited along time for these, and I am so irratated about Kubrick's decision to keep these mono, and something could have been done about the picture. Maybe now that he has passed away, somebody will fix the discs. I don't get mad about these things to often, but I swear my VHS copies are better than the discs. Thanks for the vine!

Oh man, now I'm bummed....
In my rush to order these classics, I pre-ordered them with the highest hopes.
Though I haven't watched them yet (they're in the "to do" pile), it sounds like I'm in for a major disappointment...
*sigh*
