I like his movies a lot including his hollywood movies.
But my opinion is that his Hong Kong movies are much better than his recent blockbuster movies.
Among his Hong Kong flims, my favorite is A Better Tomorrow.
I cannot understand why everyone looks crazy about Hard Boiled and Killer but no one even mention about this great flim.
What's your opinion?

My Top 5 John Woo films:

1. Hard Boiled
2. The Killer
3. Broken Arrow
4. A Better Tomorrow
5. Face/Off

I agree "A Better Tomorrow" is underrated
and a truly great film. Has anyone seen the original director`s cut of "Hard Target"? I have a bootleg copy on VHS and it`s really outstanding. Much bloodier than the theatrical version, and much more like a real John Woo film.

I think between "The Killer" and "Hard Bolied", it's a draw. It's like asking which is better, "Alien" or "Aliens", it's tough. I would place "A Better Tomorrow" third, though the DVD could use a (er) face/lift! Get a new print, a new transfer, more coherent subtitles, and a commentary please. Otherwise, a great film! I may place "Face/Off" fourth, though "Once A Thief" is also great. Now there's an underrated film!

Okay, I'll be the "Ugly American"

I liked Face/Off best.

I love all of his films, but I dunno... maybe it's because when I saw the film in the theater, and Woo's name came up in the opening credits the whole theater started going "WOO! - WOO!" That was pretty cool.

OK, burgeon.
I am wrong.
I cannot say which movie is better.
I should say that I like his Hong Kong movies more than his hollywood movies.
It might be because A Better Tomorrow was first John Woo movie I saw, so his recent film is nothing new to me any more.
I cannot forget how much I was impressed when I saw this movie at a theater.

Have any of you seen "Bullet in the Head". How would you rank this Woo film? I haven't seen it, but I've heard that it is Woo's best from another member in this forum and I am close to forking out the cash for it.

Ah, I was wondering when somebody was going to bring up "Bullet In the Head". I've seen this on tape, and while no one will argue that it's not a strong film, it was tough for me to watch. No Chow Yun Fat here. I'd say this is John Woo's most deeply personal work, and it is a bummer (Hmm.. A good thread for the future!). Anyone interested should view it somehow before adding it to the collection.
