The Mummy

This was a movie my wife and I had been
waiting for since we saw the trailer during
the Super Bowl. I'm not sure what I was
expecting from this movie, which is probably
why I was able to enjoy it. I'm not saying
the movie isn't flawed, it is. But it was
one of those popcorn movies that's just
supposed to be fun. My main problem with
this movie was the begining. It was one of
those startings where the move takes you to
the past and a narrator explains the basic
premise of whats about to happen. I suppose
that at times, if done right, this can work
for some films, but IMHO I think it lacks
originality and shows a lack of confidence
in the inteligence of the audience. After
about 15 to 20 minutes the insult fades in
memory and the movie becomes enjoyable.
There are some great CGI in this movie. I
can't comment on the sound because it was
showing on the other theater in town
It seems as though the state of the art
theater is saving it's screens for The Phantom
Menace.
I do reccomend this movie if you like the
occasional mindless fanfare. It's a
Universal Picture so I imagine it'll make a
sweet Collectors Edition on DVD!
I do think you'll enjoy this movie
alot more if you don't have great expectations
for it.

Well Jasonbird, it seems like we differ in our moviegoing experiences. Although The Mummy had great special effects, the plot was just boring and tried too hard to live up to Indiana Jones. You can read my full review here. I might get some flack for saying that I didn't like this movie, so instead of going on and on about how this movie sucks, let me recommend Election instead. Cleverly writtin featuring great performances by Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon, this is a much better movie-going choice this weekend.

You guys are on the money. I went into this expecting great things, and saw crap! I wanted a good horror movie. This was definitely an action/adventure/comedy, and not a particularly good one at that.
Sure the effects were good, but aren't they always.
The president of domestic marketing for Universal joked that they were thinking of calling it, "Raiders of the Lost Mummy." They should have, but that would've been an insult to Messrs. Spielberg and Lucas.
Having said all that, uh, yeah, it would make a great DVD (man, I am soooo addicted).

I wanted to go see this but it just so happened that it was playing in my local "Dolby Stereo" theater. Yeah, that's right, Stereo sound! Not one speaker behind you! I boycott this place and refuse to see movies there, especially movies built up as "The Special Effects Event of the Summer". If Star Wars goes here I'm going to have to kick some ace! Seeing your reviews helps me out though, I was going to go see it in Cleveland this weekend and now I'm not sure if I will, I'll just go see Entrapment just for that one scene with the lasers. All you guys out there know what I'm talking about!

I didnt check this forum beofre posting in the "other" forum, so forgive me if this is redundant.
I agree with all of you...mostly.
I just got back from seeing the mummy. It was ok. Seems to me that it could have been an Indiana Jones movie. Effects were good, probably wont buy it on DVD, but it was worth the 4.50 for a matinee.
