I liked how they tied Tony Todd and his character into the movie. It was a nice nod and his appearance reminded me of that of Sid Haig in 3 From Hell. I am curious if Todd might have had a bigger role, had it not been for his health. This had one of the best opening death scenes in a movie, right up there with Ghost Ship, but the CGI took me a bit out of the movie. And that line of thought continued throughout the movie. Really gnarly death scenes, but the CGI is pretty bad at times. Hopefully they put more money into the effects in the sequel. But just like the Saw movies, the best parts are the unique death scenes. The story itself is pretty bland, especially with the acting. I still think the original could be the best of the bunch, but for the 6th (?) entry into the franchise, it holds up pretty well.

Yep, the 6th entry. Seems like more. And the last film before this one was 2011. Wow, the franchise seems more ever present than that.

2011? That is insane. Really thought there was one sooner as well. And mind blowing that this was supposed to be a MAX exclusive but they switched to theaters. Smart call as not only is this somehow the best reviewed out of the franchise, but made the most money as well. Somehow they did something right.Originally Posted by Trevor

I watched this just two months ago, and I liked it enough to give it 3.5 stars out of 5.
I haven't decided to revisit for the Challenge since it was just a short time ago. I may try to rewatch them all and if I do that, throw this in at the end of the month if I can squeeze it in.
jacob_b really summed up my thoughts on the film. The CG is so terrible at times, it takes you completely out of the film. But there are some fantastically original kills in this.

This was my second time watching the film (I saw it during its theatrical release in June), and I enjoyed it even more this go around. Yeah, the CGI effects are often a little dodgy, and the filmmakers can't quite seem to pick an actual year for the Sky View's averted disaster (everybody seems to be dressed in early '60s clothes, but the transistor radio at the valet stand plays Bobby Gentry's version of "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," which wasn't released until April of 1970), but those are minor quibbles when the overarching plot is so strong. The filmmakers get bonus points for retro-tying all of the deaths in the previous films in the series to the Sky View incident--at least from what I know about the other films. I've seen the first one a few times and the inciting incidents in FD 2, 4, and 5, but I've never seen 2, 4, and 5 past about the 20 minute mark of each (and not at all in the case of FD 3). I'm about to remedy that, at least in FD 2 and 3's cases. I'm pretty psyched to catch up to these two.
For a fun read on how the directors shaped the deaths in the film, check out this article from Esquire magazine.

That is my feelings on Weapons lol. I've seen it twice already. At least with Sinners it was when it was in theaters earlier this year. Originally Posted by Spiderbite

3 to 3.5 seems fair. CGI was weak, but kills were good, and storyline was silly fun as usual for these films. I’m a continuity fan, so all those details tying these and other franchise films together scratch an itch, even when they’re crazy and preposterous.

I’ve been holding out watching this one until the challenge. I have to admit, I love these movies for exactly what they deliver. Most of the later films are terrible with the CGI, but I always know that the goods will be delivered. Most CGI will completely take me out of a film, but I switch off that part of my brain for these. I actually thought the story deviated from the typical formulaic, while still scratching that itch. No problems from me here.

Wow. I’m the odd man out here. I thought this was easily the worst of the franchise. Even worse than the racetrack one.

Here is my Final Destination ranking:
Final Destination 5 (I liked the darker life swap twistiness)
Final Destination 2 (the log truck intro was amazing, best of the series still)
Final Destination (1)
Final Destination: Bloodlines
Final Destination 3 (too safe, dull photograph gimmick)
The Final Destination (4) (starts to feel too samey)
On the Subset film:
Bloodlines starts big with an epic slew of death, offers a tear worthy farewell to Tony Todd, and then really struggles to find itself. Some of the computer generated effects are distracting but I suppose necessary for the scale. The best part of Bloodlines is how it plays on family togetherness for a time. I still feel like the lead actress overacts to a distracting degree sometimes out of synch with the scene (she is often cartoonishly hysterical without much theatrical gravity); and she's not even the most obnoxious character. At the start I would have rather rewatched the go for broke opening and kept waiting for something on that scale to top it. The effects here go hard when theyre not too obvious; still stuff like the lawnmower scenes is rewind worthy. Where Bloodlines struggles is making any of it feel like it matters much with a shrugging soldiering on from the characters. They were too busy figuring out if they could make a computer generated head explode in a garbage truck without stopping to think if they should. It feels like they veer too strongly into death paranoia (I feel like past FD films let than be ironic viewer knowledge longer). I liked the references to other movies and the penny bookend. Bloodlines is glossy enough it slathers a lot of pretty (computer generated) paint over shortcomings.

I haven't seen any Final Destination movies in a few years, and I really enjoyed this one. The opening set piece at the Space Needle was amazing. I've been to the Space Needle a lot for dining, so that was especially fun to watch.
I enjoyed the investigation, and the family tree aspect. I loved Richard Harmon's tattoo artist. That scene in the tattoo parlor was fun. And the MRI. Holy cow. The ending was certainly big, but I wished they'd survived. That was a whole lot to go through to not end up beating death.
I rated this 4.5/5 stars.

I went back and looked at all my star reviews for this franchise, and it is an even 3-star average across all of them. That is better than most series that have 6 movies in their series. There is usually always a massive dog or two, but I don't find that here.
I plan to rewatch them with more of a critical eye which would probably be my third or fourth watch for most.
To me it is a slightly better than average series that have really fun and interesting kills with a gimmicky but original plot device.
Toddarino and Undeadcow not liking makes me definitely want to revisit this sooner rather than later to see if I just happened to be in a charitable mood the night I watched it.

I watched this last night with a couple of friends. We all had a blast. I could pick little things apart here and there, but it would all still end up a 3 or 3.5 star film out of 5. Fun kills, scenarios that make you squirm, that's about all I expect from these films. Yes, there were some acting issues, effects weren't always perfect, but it still delivered basically what I wanted. That damn penny!

So, with my OCD and wanting to hit the entire subset for the challenge, I rewatched this one with a buddy tonight. I also went through and rewatched all prior 5 movies this past week. Not quite as good the first time I saw it, probably due to the kills not being as original or surprising to me, and the CG looking noticeably worse.
Definitely not the weakest in the series but the cast is pretty bland in this one and the movie seemed to drag more the second time around. Tony Todd gives a Kleenex worthy send-off and a meaningful speech considering his situation when filming this.
I would love to see them do one of these with practical effects.
This one is still fun and worth a watch though. *** out of *****
Here are my quick reviews for the other 5 just for shits and giggles. I was very surprised I ended up liking Part 3 the best out of all of them.
FD: *** out of *****
FD2: ***1/2 out of *****
FD3: **** out of *****
TFD(4): **1/2 out of *****
FD5: ** out of *****

Finally watched this, just prior to watching Sinners. This was a surprisingly fun return to form for the franchise, after the clunkers that were The Final Destination and Final Destination 5. I really dug that the entire movie
If this is not the last, I hope the next movie can build on the momentum of this one.

Didn't like it.
Maybe stay more serious instead of the over the top gore.
