These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.
The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.
Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

I really enjoyed this one as a horror movie for the Christmas season. It shares a vaguely similar concept to A Christmas Horror Story, which came out a few months before it.

A nice blend of some laughs and actual horror.

For the most part, I really liked this one. When I watched it, I was hoping for something brisk and fun, and I feel like that's exactly what I got. Some of the various creatures got some laughs out of me. The designs were cute but still with some menace, which can be a tricky balancing act.
My main complaint about the movie was the ending. It felt cheap and gimmicky.

Loved the opening montage. I came into this thinking it was some anthology collection, and was pleasantly surprised by the package I got. I still prefer Rare Exports as my standard 'holiday horror', but the 'gremlins' in this one were really menacing.

Probably this is intentional but the bickering family segment at the start was grating (not sure if this is a homage to National Lampoon); but from there with the blizzard things are wondrous (maybe it's just the snow and wind that seem so fantastic) balancing holiday tropes and sentimentality giving Krampus more 'soul' than I expected... but then the film seems oddly silence, the gingerbread man needed to show up when he did - although I think this slow pacing is necessary for build up. I like how vague and mysterious Krampus was (for a creature so obvious from the film title and marketing). Great ending with the kid challenging Krampus. Overall Krampus is a more awesome movie than I expected (I was a little afraid it would just be hokey gimmicks but everything is sleek and tense here).
Great soundtrack with less joyful holiday jingles.
Claymation style flashback was epic.
What is it with all the 'Krampus' knock-off movies, there are at least 3 others released in the past year.

A perfect choice to recover from Baskin.
Very funny and very creepy, with a cast of great actors. I'm usually not one for Christmas horror, but this was a lot of fun.

A terrific horror movie for Christmas. I was a tad skeptical with actors best known for coemdy in the cast, but Krampus delivered.

I was pretty "meh" on this one. It started out well enough, but by the midway point I was ready for it to be over. I followed it up with Rare Exports, which I liked a lot better, probably because it didn't try to cram so many over-the-top creature designs into itself. Sometimes less is more.

I thought about Cousin Eddie's family from National Lampoon too. A nice take on the dark side of Christmas and a fun movie. Gruß vom Krampus!

I enjoyed this one. I love a good Christmas Horror movie. I'll probably watch it again in December.
I think it fell a little short of being a classic. I'm not sure why, but it felt like something was missing. Maybe if it was a little more lighthearted like Gremlins. But I'd still give it a solid B/B+.

The movie feels like two scripts mashed together. I wonder if someone initially wrote a script for National Lampoon's Christmas Horror Vacation and someone at the studio decided to make it scarier by adding a ton of VFX in the second half.

My son and I saw this one at the theater last year and we both enjoyed it. I actually enjoyed it even more the second time around. For some reason the pace felt a little slower in the theater but this time I felt it moved much better. No idea why that was.
It has a nice amount of genuine laughs with also some nice amount of genuine horror. It isn't as whimsical as Gremlins but it gets points for being as dark as it is. The jack in the box is something of nightmares.
I really like this one and see it becoming a xmas movie tradition for us.
Was Krampus wearing a mask or was that its face?

Watching the movie I thought his face seemed rather basic for an effect but from this it appears to be a mask. It kinda makes sense since the elves wear masks and like his counterpart Kris Kringle wouldn't Krampus be an elf of sorts as well?
