Re: night gallery vs tales from the darkside

Generally speaking, I find the Night Gallery episodes to be more frightening overall. In my opinion, there are more classic Night Gallery episodes ( "Green Fingers," "The Caterpillar") than there are great Tales from the Darkside episodes. Also, the short but cringe-inducing "funny" segments that filled a few minutes on Night Gallery became full-blown episodes on Tales from the Darkside (see "A Case of the Stubborns" for proof).

However (and this is a BIG caveat), Tales from the Darkside has probably THE most frightening television episode I've ever seen in "The Cutty Black Sow." Still, overall, I have to go with Night Gallery.

Tales from the Darkside but only because I grew up in the 80s. There are some very excellent episodes though, especially one particular Stephen King adaptation. The intro alone is chilling.

If you're buying the DVDs though I'd go with Nightgallery. Tales from the Darkside can't use the original music from the episodes so they had to create new music and it greatly affects the scenes, in a negative way.
