I thought this was an unprofessional, smug review that bordered on personally insulting to Steve Reeves.

Not sure what review you read.
Bill recommended the movie, and praised Reeves' screen presence several times. I didn't get that he was "smugly" insulting to Reeves' personally...but even if he had been, that would hardly make the review "unprofessional."
