Currently re-reading this excellent book, and I was reminded that I had seen DVDs of a TV series based on this story. Has anyone ever seen these and are they worth bothering with? Do they just cover the same ground as the book/movie, or are they "Further Adventures of..." type things?

The movie is quite good, but I've heard mixed reviews of the TV series, which is indeed "further adventures of".

The animated movie from 1978 is excellent. I imported the Blu-ray from Germany. It's somewhat violent and more for adults. I haven't seen the TV series but I think it is for kids.

So I know this thread is about the old animated series, but the BBC did another series just recently. A four part mini, a straight up adaptation of the greatest book ever written. It’s on Netflix.

Only one episode in, but I’m not loving it. The animation seems a little soulless. The original animated film is a splendid adaptation, doubt it can be topped, but I’ll watch the rest of this I imagine.
