DVD Talk review of 'Brazil' (Blu-ray)
I read DVD Savant's DVD review of Brazil at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=49209 and regarding this line:
Is this true? I ask because the Universal DVD listed the shorter running time on the back as well, but was the preferred Gilliam cut.
Was the "my god, it works" line included? Was the fight with the samurai one big scene or split into two? Do you see Harvey Lime with a leg cast?
The preferred Gilliam cut on the Criterion discs clocked in at 142 minutes. This one is a full ten minutes shorter, so I can't see the Gilliam purists being happy with it.

I'm curious about this as well.
While I prefer the Criterion/Gilliam cut, I do like the "My God, it Works" line and actually like the visuals of the cloud ending in the cooling tower in the shorter cut.
If it is the shorter one on the blu-ray, is this the first time that US theatrical cut of the film has been available widescreen?
The LaserDisc was either pan-and-scan or unmatted (I never checked fully on it) and the Universal DVD was actually the longer cut.

Rumored but not confirmed. Criterion's Blu-ray of Gillaim's Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas followed about a year after Universal's bare-bones release.
For the o/p, it's been confirmed in a few other sources that this Blu-ray is indeed the U.S. theatrical cut.

I just checked the Blu-Ray against the LD of the US Theatrical Cut, and the LD was a mixture of cropped and unmatted. Significantly more info on the top and bottom, but missing some on the sides. The picture on the Blu-Ray is breathtaking though. Such a revelation!
