DVD Talk review of 'King of Kings' (Blu-ray)
I read Stuart Galbraith IV's DVD review of King of Kings at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=47275 and...
Stuart, I was surprised by the total lack of activity in the rear channels for KING OF KINGS. Always assumed these big budget epics were prime examples of the use of surround channels in theaters. Obviously, there would be no need for such audio in much of the film, but there were a number of action sequences as well as an impressive storm sequence near the conclusion. Guess this is one epic which opted out.

I'm no expert on Super Technirama specs, but I think five channels would have been spread across the front, with a single track for the sides and/or rear, but I could be mistaken about this.
Great to see you here, by the way!

So, at least for KING OF KINGS, Bronston opted not to use side or a rear channel for directional effects, is my guess.
I have enjoyed your reviews very much. I find you commenting on titles that either are in my DVD/Blu-ray library or ones which should be. We have very similar tastes in films. Keep up the great work.
