DVD Talk review of 'The Lottery'
I read William Harrison's DVD review of The Lottery at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=45064 and...
Found it interesting. I am originally a Harlem resident that grew up there during the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and had the opportunity to go to Hunter College High School (a school for the gifted located in Manhattan) for 7th through 12 grade. The lottery described here is not much different than the selection choices for Hunter, except Hunter can only be attended through an exam, and usually each school in NYC has to pick which student they send to take the test. In most cases it's the students that have high test scores and overall good grades, but the decisions could be arbitrary as I have never known who had input in my decision to be chosen. The lottery here is harsher as friends immediately see others picked or not picked, and may always wonder why.
