Please recommend a movie for me!!!
I am really in the mood to watch a movie similar to something like Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Lost In Translation, etc. Basically a movie that is talky and has a romantic element to it.
It seems that these are some of my favorite movies.
The most recent movie I watched along these lines was Medicine for Melancholy. I loved it.
Off the top of my head, aside from those mentioned above, I've seen pretty much every Woody Allen movie worth seeing, 2 Days in Paris, Metropolitan, and others I can't remember right now.
Perhaps I've seen all of this type of movie that are worth seeing.
Can anyone recommend one I might have missed? Thanks in advance.

Thanks! I've heard of A Room with a View but forgot about ever checking it out. I'm going to write it down so I don't forget.
And Garden State, don't even get me started on how much I love that movie. That movie was responsible for my checking out and discovering countless other classics.
Sure, it's not the best movie ever made, but it is probably the movie that most influenced my current tastes and introduced me into the world of independent films or films made with an independent feel. I'm only 22, so Garden State was sort of my The Graduate.

Happy Accidents
I love early Woody Allen, and you may have seen all of them but, Hannah and Her Sisters, Husbands and Wives, Manhattan, Manhattan Murder Mystery. Those are some of my favorites.
Perhaps a bit off, but still in the area; Wicker Park.

If you can get into foreign films, try trackign down some Korean films ..they have a huge melodramatic selection.
For starters:
The Classic
Il Mare
Traces of Love
Failan
A Moment to Remember
My Sassy Girl (more of a rom-com though)

I've seen Wicker Park but it's been years. I remember liking it though.

Re: Please recommend a movie for me!!!
To be more specific, I like movies that are a bit more intellectual. For instance, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset both have a romantic element but they certainly are not traditional romance movies. There is much talk of philosophy, art, literature, etc. that would either bore or be lost on a mainstream audience.
The same can be said for Eternal Sunshine. Contrary to what so many people say, I do not see this as a romantic comedy. Sure, a romantic relationship is at the core of the movie, but that is merely utilized as a relatable starting point for which the movie can branch out into something truly original.
I'm not trying to sound like an elitist, but 95% of the rom-coms/rom-dramas that are released these days are insulting to my intelligence. They are so cookie cutter that it becomes laughable/intolerable. Understandably, almost all movies of this genre are a bit predictable, but is it really too much to make the characters and dialogue engaging?
To me, a good recent example of a predictable rom-com that actually worked was Ghost Town. At first I didn't think to watch this movie, but then a friend of mine, who happens to love generic rom-coms, said that she thought it was boring and that she just didn't get the "main British guy." I immediately knew I had to watch this movie and really enjoyed it.
Also, a classic that I recently watched, The Apartment, features a somewhat predictable ending but the characters are so endearing and the dialogue so well written that the film is near flawless. It begins as one movie and the events that transpire totally change the tone and course of the film. It's wonderful.
Oh well, I still hold some hope for the "mumble-core" genre, which has some intriguing films, but the writing is often weak. Solid writing truly goes a long way.

Has anyone seen Brief Encounter? It's a Criterion release and sounds really good. I wish we had some sort of confirmation or even a stronger hint that Barnes & Noble plans to have another Criterion sale soon.
