Sci-Fi recomendations
Hey everyone, first of all I'd like to say I am new here and enjoy reading this forum. I am really into movies, and am building/expanding my collection.
One area of weakness is my sci fi collection.
could you guys give me some recommendations?
I really enjoy movies involving space among other things, like total recall and 2001 a space odyssey.

Re: Sci-Fi recomendations
That's a tough question as there are *so* many variations/sub-genres in sci-fi.
Of course there are the "classics" any good collection should contain. These are all personal favorites listed in no particular order. Not all are space opera with some borderline horror and a few sci-fi comedy thrown in for good measure omitting the 2 you mentioned which also belong here:
Solaris (Tarkovsky's original *NOT* the remake!)
Planet of the Apes (1968 original)
War of the Worlds (1953 - George Pal)
Alien
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (both the 1956 original and 1978 remake w/Donald Sutherland)
The Thing from another world! (1951)
The Thing (John Carpenter remake of above)
Forbidden Planet
Blade Runner
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Gojira
Conquest of Space
From the Earth to the Moon
Galaxy Quest
It! The Terror from Beyond Space (inspiration for Alien)
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Wars (new title: Star Wars IV: A New Hope)
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
When Worlds Collide
This Island Earth
Earth vs. the Flying Saucers
The Incredible Shrinking Man
Them!
The Matrix
A Boy and His Dog
Conquest of Space
The Day the Earth Caught Fire
Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959)
King Kong (1933)
Metropolis (1927)
The Road Warrior
X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes
Rocketship X-M
Time Bandits
The Time Machine (1960)
20 Million Miles to Earth
If it's a true weakness you should also look into the "B" movies from the 50's early 60's. There are quite a few obscure gems with *lots* of cheesy fun.

Thanks noir!
Bob- Thanks so much! Yeah I love planet of the apes (even the sequels and the remake), love star wars, love the matrix movies, and a few others on your list. Some others I have not seen and will definitely check out.
Thanks for the help guys I look forward to seeing these movies
