DVD Talk review of 'The Ascent of Man'

I read John Sinnott's DVD review of The Ascent of Man at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=37053 and... thought to suggest you all that you buy the Region 2 or Region 4 copy of it instead. If your dvd player can play it, you'll save a bunch of money, and get a single special feature (an interview with David Attenborough who was running programming at BBC Two at the time this was made), and a booklet explaining the history of the show - for example that Bronowski had to be persuaded to make it, not the other way 'round.

For once, the other regions have done better than region 1 for a DVD release - you guys usually get way more special features, fancier packaging etc...

Re: DVD Talk review of 'The Ascent of Man'

I really enjoyed reading John Sinnott's review of this great series. I saw it about a year ago via NetFlix and was very impressed by the program. And, as a longtime fan of Cosmos, I was surprised to find out that it had basically lifted the idea for some segments directly from The Ascent of Man (the Einstein segment on relativity comes to mind). While the picture and audio quality may be lacking, the thought-provoking intelligence of The Ascent of Man is extremely high-quality.

And it's just stunning that Jacob Bronowski died only a year after this program was first broadcast. It's a "what if" scenario on what his follow-up to The Ascent of Man might have been if he had lived just a few years longer.
