Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

I haven't seen this yet but the user ratings on rottentomatoes.com is through the roof. Does anybody
else agree it's worth buying?

Re: Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

It is depressing as hell (literally...the characters in this movie go through hell and really don't get back from it) but I loved every minute of the movie. If you can handle a movie that doesn't have a zipped up happy Hollywood ending, then it shouldn't be a concern.

If you liked movies like Sunshine and Brazil and such, then this is for you.

Well worth owning.

Since this is in the wrong forum, none of these opinions count.

Re: Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

Not a fan of Sunshine or Brazil, but I loved Children of Men. It does take place in a depressing, post-apocalyptic world; but there is a strong message of hope that pervades the film. Certainly not for everyone, but I bought it after I'd seen it; so I put my money where my mouth is.

I'm sorry. I'm a new guy here. Let's see this forum is titled: DVD TALK....talk about dvds and movies...........Is that right? With all due respect I'm just trying to fit in here. Kind of like when you start a new job. It's smart to just fit in and make friends and get along. That's all I'm doing guys just trying to fit in.

Re: Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

Movie talk is a separate forum. This forum is about the DVD not the film. So next time ask something like.. "Anybody like "The Possibility of Hope" featurette on the Children of Men disc?"

There is no try, only do, or do not.

SRSLY - I guess this should be in Movie Talk since it's not specifically about Children Of Men on DVD. Kinda confusing, actually.

Anyway, I loved the movie. Loved it. One of the best IMO though not as stylish as Blade Runner or Brazil.

The characters do not literally go through hell. Figuratively, maybe. Literally, no.

And I think the movie ends on an optimistic note.

Re: Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

Well technically he is asking if he should buy the DVD.
It never ceases to amaze me how anal people get over something so trivial. I just find it so annoying when people would rather make sarcastic posts to point out when someone arguably puts something in the wrong forum than just answering the guys question.

As for the OP's question, let's just say this movie was a blind buy I definately do not regret.

Re: Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

I thought it was brilliant and I loved every second. Some of the long one shot takes were amazing and it was well acted. It really stays with you. Highly recommended and holds up on multiple watches too...

Re: Anybody like CHILDREN OF MEN?

This was my favorite film the year it came out. I had purchased it on DVD, and now I own it on HD DVD but would upgrade it to Blu-ray for new bonus materials and a lossless audio codec. That should tell you how awesome it is (from my own perspective).

You're going to get needled here no matter what you do. That's gonna happen. If you don't wimp out and run away you'll do fine here.

After a while you'll get a sense for when you may have actually made a faux pas, or some of the people, the same people around here, are just trying to play 'DVDTalk cop'.

'Children Of Men' is first rate film making. Very intelligent and well made. I recommend it.
