Didn't see it, but did notice that Blockbuster has a version with exclusive footage.

Fangoria magazine has a review in the new issue and they give it a perfect score (4/4). They don't talk much about the plot to not give spoilers, but they do mention it is about nature striking back at an advance oil drill team.

I liked it - probably my favorite of Fessenden's movies that I've seen. Be warned - if you go in expecting a Thing-like monster mash you'll probably be disappointed. The horror is more psychological, and things are kept ambiguous (is it something supernatural or natural?). It gets a thumbs up from me. Good atmosphere, solid cast, mystery-like horror story that kept me interested. Only misstep for me was near the end when
Spoiler:
giant CGI monsters make an appearance. The movie really didn't need it.

Saw it last month...interesting premise but falls apart rather quickly...the ending is simply ridiculously over the top....

The Last Winter - 1/5

To call this movie 'shit' would do a huge disservice to fecal matter everywhere. 'The Last Winter' is an incredibly slow moving and boring story about Alaskan oil drilling scouts suffering at the hands of "Mother Gaia" as evil vapors emitted from melting permafrost (previously frozen solid for tens of thousands of years) begin the wreck havoc with their sanity. I will have to go back and check the credits, as I am sure that Al Gore ghostwrote this ridiculous waste of celluloid, because it's "global warming" message is anything but subtle. Oh, and as quoted on the cover of the DVD, Bob Strauss from the L.A. Daily News, presumably after getting a hearty kickback from the producers evidently mumbled under his breath that 'The Last Winter' was "The SCARIEST movie of the year", yeah right, if the only other two movies you watched in 2007 were 'Surf's Up' and 'Nancy Drew', and even then I'm not so sure. I really, really hope Mr. Strauss got a decent reward for his incredibly misleading and soul-selling comment, because if he didn't, then he's just an asshole. If you were considering buying or renting 'The Last Winter', thinking it would be 'John Carpenter's The Thing' for a new generation, you couldn't be anymore disappointed. Despite starring Ron Perlman ('Hellboy') who evidently can't manage to take off his 'Beauty & the Beast' make-up, James LeGros ('Point Break') and the uber MILFy Connie Britton (TV's 'Friday Night Lights'), 'The Last Winter' is one turd that needs to be double-flushed post-haste!

That movie is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

I can't say enough bad things about it.

Some nitwit 'environmentalist' played writer/director/producer and failed miserably at all three.
