Action Film Reccomendations

I've posted on here before because I run the Film Club at my local high school, and I'm always looking for recommendations for films to show.

The teacher who runs the club with me wants an action movie for the next meeting and, well, I'm not particularly "action-movie savvy", so to speak. Can anyone reccommend anything worth seeing? I'm looking for action movies with substance, not just violence and silly one-liners. Foreign/indie films are perfectly acceptable, as are more mainstream offerings. In my research I came across a Korean film which I had heard a lot about previously called "A Bittersweet Life", which is only list of possibilities. I've heard nothing but praise but, if you've seen that, can you comment on if it's worth a watch or not for the club?

Thanks a lot.

Those are hard to come by but Munich should fit the bill. Also there is Akira (anime) and Ghost in the Shell (anime).

I would recommend "A Bittersweet Life" for the club -- quite brutal at times but stylishly done.

seconded. Only thing is that you need a region free player (its not availible in the us at this time) and its quite expensive.

May I kindly reccommend the Park Chanwook revenge trilogy of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance. There's a lot more to these flicks then just a simple revenge tale.
