DVD Talk review of 'Fido'

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=31093

i really don't understand this:

"Fido is presented in 16 x 9 anamorphic widescreen. The picture transfer is very good, with a crisp image and vibrant colors."

yet it only received 2 1/2 stars for video

and this:

"Fido is presented 5.1 Dolby Digital. The sound mix is good, and the audio levels are also consistent."

yet it also only received 2 1/2 stars for the audio

i understand the guy didn't like the film (it's not for everyone). but i feel this dvd is being poorly judged just because the guy didn't like the content. remember you're reviewing the dvd presentation as well, not just the film. i don't come here and read reviews for your opinion. i could care less. i just want the facts on the audio/video/extras and this is a very misleading review.

I agree with you. I haven't seen the movie so I can't comment on how good or bad it is but the reviewer seems like a grade A douche.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I was thinking the same thing while reading this review. He didn't give any reason to knock down the video/audio scores, but gave them 2 1/2 stars. Why?

I just watched this and the picture quality is better than 2 1/2 stars.

the reviewer is just a douche. I normally trust dvdtalk but assholes like that make me feel a little weary about their reviews. The list of special features looks like it deserves more than what it got also.

I think I might pick this up tomorrow and see how I feel about it.

I rented this last night and I wouldn't have been disappointed if I'd have blind bought it. I thought it was a fun satire of 1950's America. I didn't laugh out loud at anything, but I did think the humor was worthwhile. The filmmakers did an excellent job creating a believable 1950's America including the interior/exterior of the homes, the clothing, the cars, etc. Plus, I thought it had some great performances from some actors that are probably recognizable to most people, but are relatively under the radar like Dylan Baker, Tim Blake Nelson, and Henry Czerny. I've seen all of these guys in other things before, but never knew their names. I liked their performances enough to look them up on IMDB, though. I'm not a reviewer by any means, but I didn't see anything wrong with the picture or sound quality either. Bottom line is I would definitely recommend this film to horror fans or someone that likes something a little different. I think it's possible fans of shows like Leave It To Beaver and Lassie might find this film entertaining too.

You should know by now that personal attacks against DVD Talk users -- calling someone here an asshole or a douche -- is against the rules. Stop it.

hi, this is takingchase and yes I will agree I took it a little further than I should have. I do apologize for the name calling but that doesn't take away from the fact that this reviewer gave a completely unfair review of the movie. I come to dvdtalk for professional reviews and I generally trust what you guys have to say. That review was completely unfair, even people who like the movie can't come and see how the discs supplements and video/audio presenation hold up because his distaste for the movie biased his score for everything else. I honestly don't even know how you guys let that review get published. I strongly suggest scratching it because I wouldn't even call it a review.

I just watched the movie and I'll agree I didn't think it was the best movie in the world but it certainly wasn't bad and I know the audio/video deserve a whole lot higher than presented in his review as does the supplements.

I'm sorry guys but I except so much more from the reviewers on this site, so generally I was a little dissapointed and angered which lead to unneccesary name calling.

wait...if "takingchase" got suspended, how are you back with a new id? don't you know that is bad too? have you read any of the rules here???

this movie got me interested...i consider "Shaun of the Dead" the epitomy of the horror/comedy genre and ranks as one of the best movie's in the zombie genre. is "Fido" remotely close?

yes, I realize I wasn't supposed to make another id. I know the rules. I just wanted to come back and apologize for the name calling and present my case a little bit. Other than that I won't be posting for my week suspension.

No, but it is a fun movie. Give it a rent. I blind bought it and I don't regret it, but it doesn't come close to Shaun of the Dead.

I agree. It's definitely worth seeing, but it's no Shaun of the Dead. I'll probably even end up buying it in the near future because I think it has pretty good rewatchability. For me, I'd give Fido 4/5 stars, but I'd give Shaun of the Dead 5/5 stars.
