Best Version of Kill Bill???
Circuit city has the kill bills each for 9 bucks this week, I've been waiting cause i thought tarantino was gonna release better cuts, unrated, whatever versions of the films but im getting tired of waiting, and for 9 bucks they seem like a good deal this week. However, is there a different region that has a better version/set of this movie that I should buy instead? Region coding isn't a problem, so i figured id see what everyones opinions here were. Thanks in advance.

The Japanese cut of KB1 is a lot better than the U.S. cut IMO, which is uncut and has the full color fight scene. The Japanese cut of KB2 has about 45 extra seconds of the Mexican prostitute scene, but nothing earth shattering there.

Agreed. If you can't wait any longer this is the version to buy.

The problem with the Japanese version though is that you constantly have to keep flipping the subtitles, as it either subtitels everything, or nothing at all. Unlike the R1 version, which just subtitles the Japanese dialog.

Just to add to this one:
Not only was the "Bride vs Crazy 88" fight scene in full color, some scenes showed more "carnage' as well such as a slightly longer anime segment where O-Ren Ishii stabs the yakuza head & a little bit more entrails were spilled when she cuts the "pervert" in the bar.

As everyone else says, the Japanese cut of Vol 1 is greatly superior, definitely get it. And as matome mentions, the difference in the Jpn cut of Vol 2 is negligible, so just save your money and pick up the US version of that film (especially because the Japanese disc has the same issue with the subtitles, although they are really only used for "The Cruel Tutelage of Pai Mei" in the second film)

There are also some alternate angle shots on the opening scene with Vernita and The Bride in the kitchen, for whatever reason. I had screencaps in an old thread somewhere, but I can't find it.
It also has way cooler menus

My choice is - buy both. With R1 you won't have to deal with subtitles thing and you'll have a Japanese one for collection. But that's only if you're a crazy fan like most people here, including myself I presume
If you still want only one - I'd recommend Japanese Premium edition box. It's the same as ordinary Japanese release but has nice looks and lots of stuff inside

Can you still get that? I remember getting it for $65 shipped when it was first released.
As for the subtitle problem with the Jpn version----it becomes a non issue if you watch it enough times. Their so short you end up memorizing the subs and know what their saying.

Sellers have it from 4,800 Yen, although I doubt any of them would ship to USA.
There are a few on FleaBay, but be prepared to get held up.

Only somewhere like eBay. But the first part is more expensive. I usually see it being sold for over $100. Second is around $60-80.

I don't have a problem with having the American dvds as that's the version I fell in love with in the theaters. Of course I'm hoping for a future release complete with director's cut, deleted scenes, and commentaries from Tarantino.

thanks for the input guys.... i may be able to wait for a US uncut version... Alot of the stores online, that i found, say the jap versions are OOP, and i dont feel like dropping too much on ebay. So we'll see, I have "backup" copies of the R1 DVDs themselves, so they can hold me over till an uncut R1 comes out to buy.

I mean come on! I've been patiently waiting for it, but this is getting silly!

Hey MaK10,
I happen to live in Vancouver where we have a "Book Off" store. "Book Off" is the largest bookstore chain in Japan which sells used books, magazines & dvds and they have branches in New York, LA, Costa Mesa & Torrance CA.
Last weekend, I saw two or three copies of Kill Bill Vol.1 R2 selling for $30 Canadian. I'm sure that if you can come across a Book Off store, I highly recommend you go in and check.

Yep, I'm nutty about these films and have both the US DVDs and both Japanese Premium box sets (the first one is long out of print, but the box set for Vol 2 can still be had if you look around. I bought mine in a used DVD store in Japan for less than $40 a couple years ago, less than half of it's original Japanese retail price)
