Mario Bava Set

Its a shame about the lack of English dubs as despite what Glenn Erickson says (I'm sorry I'm not reffering to a person as a title, Its like if Bill Warren wrote reviews and refered to himself in the first person as "Keep Watching the Skies"), when AIP had a film redubbed it was usually done be Titra studios who employed extremly capable and talented actors and actresses. Just look at any of the Godzilla films espeically Smog Monster or The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Here is one example

Sadly, the only audio track is the familiar English dub. Although the dubbing isn't terrible, it still puts Kill, Baby... Kill! into the realm of down-market import work. Inane dubbed voices are what kept Savant from taking seriously both Euro horror films and Spaghetti westerns when they were new. I say this admitting that no small measure of cinema snobbery is sneaking into my appreciation for Euro fare: Black Sabbath in its original Italian may be no better dubbed than its English track, but it sounds like an exotic foreign import when compared to the cartoonish dub tracks on Black Sunday.

I am happy he admits the snobbery of it at least. Personally I say give fans both and let multiple viewings sort it out . Honestly the Anchor Bay release of The Beyond is a perfect template for what should be done when possible (rights and such). Still this was a rights issue so no mark against AB.

Let it be known while I do bitch about Glenn at times (and disagree with some of his comments about how not having old US cuts and such isn't a big deal see his Uni Hammer set review or Cecil B Demille one or dubs as mentioned before) he is an excellent reviewer who knows how to mix film history into his reviews which is always appreciated and I always check for his reviews.

Still it seems like a very solid set and I look forward to checking it out. Thanks to all the work of Tim Lucas and Richard and others for making this set seem like a winner. Just had to rant a little .
