DVD Talk review of 'Performance'
I read DVD Savant's DVD review of Performance at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=26855 and...
The footnote for the review is unnecessary and inaccurate. I fail to see why it is even included as part of the review. Performance is carried at most Best Buy stores. I picked it up the day of release at a Best Buy store and I have personally seen it at two other Best Buys in the area since that day.
I also disagree that the film does not work except in a theater. That is a naive and subjective evaluation. The film is highly effective in a home theater setting. Warner should be commended for the effort that went into the Performance transfer. It looks better than I have ever seen. They should also be praised for finally including the original voices of many of the secondary actors. This is the first time I have been able to hear the film without the dubbing, although it would have been interesting if Warner Bros. included the dubbed and original tracks on the disc. The only major flaw of the disc is the missing line of dialog("Here's to Old England!") during the Memo from Turner sequence. It is a such a resonant line and adds to the mirroring/duality theme of the film.
