DVD Talk review of 'Hellboy: Sword of Storms'
I read Jamie S. Rich's DVD review of Hellboy: Sword of Storms at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=26254 and...
I'm one of the producers of the DVD-ROM for Hellboy, and I'd like to thank you for actually reviewing the DVD-ROM. We spend a lot of time and energy making DVD-ROM on titles as good as it can be. Thank you for recognizing our efforts.
As for the issue of installing software for something you are going to "watch once". We hope that users will enjoy our features that they are going to come back more than once. That being said, I completely understand where you are coming from. I don't like having stuff installed on my computer either, and most of the DVD-ROM features we've done have avoided any installation, see all New Line titles from 2005 and 2006 including, Blade Trinity, The Mask (which won the DVDA award for best DVD-ROM 2006), Wedding Crashers, Snakes on a Plane, and many more. However, this has the side effect of not allowing us to update the feature due to unforseen compatibility issues (Vista, Intel Macs) etc... So we came up with the most innoculous installer we could.
You'll note that when you are asked to Install, there is a "?" on the screen, pressing that tells you exactly what is installed and where. We don't install anything system-y we don't create prefs or modify your registry in any way, all we do is create a folder in your "Program Files" ("Applications" on the Mac). That is all we copy, and nothing more. To uninstall, just toss that folder in the trash.
This gives us the ability to update the DVD-ROM feature to allow for OS compatibility changes.
