DVD Talk review of 'Gymkata'
I read John Wallis's DVD review of Gymkata at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=26243 and...
"Stinky-wonderful" is my new favorite phrase. I'm never going to get that out of my head.
(And the rest of the review was kickin', too.)

I think I'm gonna pick it up. I always thought it was pretty good. I first watched it, in '86 or '87. Then a few years ago, discovered on the internet, that a lot of people find it unintentionally funny. I guess it is.

From the review:
But first, Cabot must train to combine his gymnastics skills with martial arts. Montage time! His two trainers are a big black guy and an Asian guy who has a eagle on his arm in one scene for no other reason than having a eagle clearly makes you awesome.

Extras: Trailer. Not much, but what a trailer. You get to hear the movie-voice over guy actually crack the line, "When gymnastics and karate are fused, the combustion becomes an EXPLOSION and a new kind of martial arts is born!"

A film so utterly absurd it's practically impossible to forget. I recall my parents actually paid good money to take my sister and I to see this theatrically. John's review of this obnoxiously enjoyable crapfest is so on target it's ridiculous. "Stinky-wonderful" indeed.

Good review, though the DVD was released by Warner, not MGM

Thanks for the kind words. Its one of those films where I knew I had to make a good case for its worthiness. (Oh, and I fixed the MGM mislabel. Just a brain fart on my part.)

Excellent review. I especially like the heart-warming parent/child talk. "Stinky-wonderful" pretty much sums it up.
Too bad Kurt Thomas doesn't do a commentary. If nothing else, I'm sure they could've gotten Bart Conner to make fun of him.
