Recommend me some classic Christopher Walken stuff.

Okay, not really classic as in early, but classic as in what I love about the man. Just watched The Rundown yesterday again, and absolutely loved Walken in it.

So what is similar?

As great as he is, isn't he the same in every film? It's like asking for a film where Pacino doesn't yell.

I got my first taste of Walken in Communion when I was younger, he totally creeped me out. He may not be doing his usual 'Walken' routine in it but I think it's one of his best performances.

also got to second True Romance IMO, the be all end all Chris Walken performance.

You will not regret watching Suicide Kings. One of Walken's funiest roles in my opinion

I second Communion and True Romance as two of his better performances. And Pulp Fiction, Annie Hall and Blast from the Past for ones that just had me pissing my paints laughing. Also, be sure to check out the Saturday Night Live: Best of Christopher Walken DVD for some classic Walken moments. I can't remember if it's on that one or the Best of Tom Hanks where they have the scene from the Anniversary Special where Walken's in the audience and asks Tom about the SNL scripts and how he just wings shit - hilarious!

I did not know Christopher Walken is now considered to have done classic work but from all the films he has been in one that simply stands out with his secondary role (which made the picture worth-seeing for me) was: Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead.

Couple that with the wacky script...and you have quite a gem.

Ciao,

At Close Range
The Dead Zone

My two personal favorites, but most of the titles already posted ring my bell.

I think that Walken in The Deer Hunter was his best performance. He took home the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1978 for it.

I also liked him in King of New York.

Has a pretty good (smaller) role in Poolhall Junkies. The Opportunists is another fun one.

I've got second those two choices. These are the films (along with DEERHUNTER) that the cult is based on. He's not "just playing himself" in these two movies; he's putting in amazing performances. DEAD ZONE breaks my heart every time I see it...and I've seen it 20-25 times!

I was bored one night, and added all of Christopher Walkin's movies into my Netflix Queue. Some were good, some were very bad. Some were just plain weird.

For example, The Country Bears, was certainly not what I was expecting. It showed up, and I couldn't figure out why I had rented it, until Walken showed up.

Though his role in Annie Hall is rather brief, I highly recommend the movie.
