Which Frankenstein (1931) ("75th" or "Legacy")?
I know the Legacy has the other movies, but does the 75th have that much better picture and better extras to warrant that purchase over the Legacy?
Anyone have both and can let me know which is the definitive one to get?

I voted "Legacy" but, if the option was there, I would go with "Both".

FRANKENSTEIN is the best Universal Monster movie, no doubt.
But, since I already had the Legacy version (and the cool documentary on UNIVERSAL HORROR was in the DRACULA 75th anniversary set), I just got the DRACULA dvd. The Legacy one is better than the 75th Ann. one because it has the great BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

Obviously the 75th anniversary edition is the more complete release if we're just talking about the original Frankenstein film. There are more extras and marginally improved a/v, although not to the degree the Dracula 75th AE is over the legacy edition. If you're a big Frankenstein fan you probably would need both the legacy and 75th version to get the complete edition.

What about the first release with movie poster cover? I bought all the single disc editions first, then the sequel double features, then the Dracula, Creature and Invisible Man Legacys for the rest of the sequels. I miss anything by not double dipping?

I have a feeling the 75th Ann. version contains the same cleaned up/restored transfer Universal gave for the last 2 releases. So the choice comes down to, do you want the other Frankenstein movies or that spiffy 90 minute Universal horror documentary. I'd rather have the extra films.
$20 for 5 films or $20 for 1 film.

I have both also, of both Dracula and Frankenstein, I wasn't going to get the 75th Anniversary edition when they were announced way back when but when they were released I just couldn't pass them up. And I made the right decision. I'd have to say the Legacy edition because they have so many more movies on them

If the question were about Dracula, I'd go with the 75th Anniversary edition since Drac's sequels were by and large awful (how can Lon Chaney, Jr. make such a bad vampire?). But Bride of Frankenstein is as good as the original and the subsequent films are great fun.

I'd go with the Legacy version of Frankenstein since Bride of Frankenstein is in mine and many other people's opinion, better than the original which is a rarity. I think more of Mary Shelley's story is touched on in that film overall. I prefer Dracula to Frankenstein, personally, because I watched it more as a kid and was terrified of Dracula. If you're a real horror aficionado, you might want both versions of Frankenstein and Dracula. I'm thinking about breaking down and getting the 75th Ann. Editions before too long just for the documentary and extra commentaries cause the commentaries on all the previous Universal horror films have been pretty good.

Universal did a bang up job remastering BOTH Dracula and Frankenstein for the 75th Annversary releases. If you are looking at print quality alone, these are the way to go....but really, it is splitting hairs to a degree. The previous editions looked pretty good to me...but I HATE DVD-18 discs. I'm glad Universal is finally getting away from them with the newer "Franchise" releases......
