Is there any difference between this "special edition" version and the one Synapse released a couple of years ago?

From what I read of DVD Savants review:

It seems almost identical, down to the commentary and other extras.

The new cover bothers me more than a little when compared with the subdued earlier cover. But if the difference is neglible, I wonder why do we even need another version of this film from the same distributor?
