Twilight Samurai for R1 or R0

I've read the DVD Talk Review of the R1 and hit up DVD Beaver for their comparison, only to find the R1 is very lacklustre and a decent R0 is a Tartan R0 PAL w/o any extras.

Preferably, a R0 of the R2 (Jap. w/ dts & extras) would be terrific, if there's a 2-disc release. Seems to be a bit of a challenge to find a "definitive" edition if you rely mainly on R1 and R0 DVDs. What are some decent versions of this film if you're not region free?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid the definitive edition of Twilight Samurai would still be the R2 Japanese version. I realize the R1's transfer is absolutely horrendous while the R3 HK one is not bad but lacks any extras.

To further show evidence that going region-free is the only way (and opens a lot of cinematic choices for you), the R2 Japanese dvd has a feature from commencement of filming to the awards ceremonies where Twilight Samurai swept almost all major prizes. Alas, no English subtitles though...

Oh man, that sucks.

Is there a decent R0 release w/o the extras that has sharp audio and video?

Good movie, but agree that the R1 is a waste of a dvd...I bought it not really knowing anything about it and wished I would have just rented it.

Okay, I've seen numerous Region 0 2-disc versions with dts and a 40 minute doc, etc. around the online market. What are these? DVD Compare and DVD Beaver don't know what the bunk I'm talking about.

Probably bootlegs of the Japanese version.
