Need John Wayne recommendations
I have decided my collection is bare of John Wayne and that is just unacceptable. I am somewhat familiar with his films, but there are so many from so many studios I was hoping I could get some advice on where to start and what versions to get. Thanks.

"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" is my favorite John Wayne movie, and it's only 4.88 @ Wal Mart right now! You might also want to consider "The Searchers","Red River",and "The Quiet Man".

Wait until June and pick up the John Wayne/John Ford boxset from Warners, which will include The Searchers, Stagecoach, Fort Apache, The Long Voyage Home, The Wings of Eagles, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, They Were Expendable, and 3 Godfathers.
In the mean time, Paramount has the John Wayne Gift Set, which includes True Grit, The Shootist, El Dorado, The Sons of Katie Elder, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
The two sets will give you a pretty decent Wayne collection (13 films) for about $90.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am starting with:
Hondo (1953)
Island in the Sky (1953)
McLintock! (1963)
They are part of the Paramount sale at DDD/DVDplanet right now. Next I will probably grab the paramount set and then wait for the suggest WB set. I thank you for the help.

How about some Wayne films to avoid!!!
Like "Train Robbers".
Terrrible movie. I think that made it just for the heck of making a movie.
Stupid plot. High school level acting.
Like the "bad" guys were just this big group of "riders" chasing them all over the desert!!!

How is Donovan's Reef?
I picked up that, El Dorado, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Shootist and The Sons of Katie Elder on teh WalMart sale today. I think all but DR were recommended in this thread. The description sounded good though so I figured what the heck.

Being a huge Duke fan there are several goodies I'm apt to throw in the player and enjoy; I like watching his 60's-70's films.....
Chusum
True Grit
Big Jake
McLintock!
Rio Lobo
El Dorado
And for good cheesy fun-
Brannigan
