DVD Talk review of 'Battlestar Galactica - Season One'
I read Todd Douglass Jr.'s DVD review of Battlestar Galactica - Season One at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=17875 and...
I happen to own the original Miniseries disc. Like many reviews this one gives the impression Disc 1 of the Season 1 set is identical to the original miniseries disc.
For kicks I popped this disc as well as Disc 1 of the US Season 1 set (which is the miniseries disc) into my computer to check the bitrates. They are different. The one in the Season 1 set has an average bitrate of 5.12 Mb/sec while the separate miniseries disc is 5.68 Mb/sec. That means, at least to some degree, the one in the boxed set should have lower video quality.
Since it takes up the whole disc, I figured it would be an exact copy of the separate one sold earlier. Apparently not. I wonder why the one in the boxed set has a lower bitrate?

A slightly lower numerical bit rate does not necessarily automatically equate to lower picture quality. The quality of the compression work is more important than the numerical value. I would have to doubt that the difference between 5.12 and 5.68 would be at all visible, especially since these numbers are averages
