Crime DVDs Recommendations

Well The Title says it all, I really enjoy flicks like The Untouchables and The Godfather Series, King Of New York, Cop Land, and I also really liked Four Brothers. Shit like Payback would be cool too. So just a few recommendations would be greatly appreciated. But if you have a lot then I'm not trying to stop you.

I was just going to come here and post a similar thread.. Unfortunately I already own or know about all the titles listed so far. I just saw True Romance for the first time last night which has crime woven into a love story.. pretty good flick. A Bronx Tale is organized crime related, but OOP. I will try to post some more titles once I'm a little more awake..

The crime genre happens to be my favorite. I think most of my small dvd collection are crime movies.

Other than the ones already mentioned, you should check out the overlooked Once in the Life.

Scarface (the ultimate crime film) is an obvious answer. But somehow I still felt the need to mention it since no one has mentioned it yet.

Heh, I was going to mention Scarface as well...along with a sentence or two wondering out loud why I was even bothering. Anyway, I'll second Layer Cake and City of God. I'll strongly second them. Anybody looking for crime films who hasn't seen those two should do so immediately.

Another strong reccomendation for City of God and Layer Cake.

Here are a few excellent British gangster flicks.
Long Good Friday
Get Carter
Sexy Beast (just watching Ben Kingsley's performace is worth it alone)

Another British flick I would reccomend is Croupier with Clive Owen before he made it big.

Le Cercle Rouge
Le samouraï
Rififi

I'm sure you've seen The Italian Job, Training Day, and Oceans Eleven, but they're up there. Since you mentioned Payback and not just gangster movies, here are my suggestions, with ones I really like in bold:

Along Came a Spider
Antitrust
Confidence
Criminal
Employee of the Month
Entrapment
Heist
In Too Deep (Omar Epps, LL Cool J)

Layer Cake
Leon: The Professional
The Score (I'm selling a new copy here )
Man on Fire
Matchstick Men
A Perfect World
Runaway Jury
Scorched

Snatch
Snake Eyes
Sneakers
Spy Game
Striking Distance

Swordfish
Very Bad Things
The Watcher
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Three Kings

25th Hour is a good crime based drama on going to prison, it surprised me. I seem to like Edward Norton movies.

I didn't like Sexy Beast, it was too.. boring.
