DVD Talk review of 'Oldboy'

I read David Walker's DVD review of Oldboy at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=17240 and...

If this qualifies for DVDTalk Collector Series, what does the Tartan R0 2-disc edition that was released in the UK back in February qualify as? Based on the specs of the 2 versions, the original Tartan release blows this new release out of the water, with a bunch of extra commentaries, deleted scenes, and featurettes (here's a link to DVDBeaver.com's review and list of extras on the original release: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews10/oldboy_.htm). Did Tartan think no one would want all those extra features or like everyone else are they planning to release a special edition at some point in the future, perhaps to coincide with the release of the American remake next year?

I'd love to know whether this is now the best NTSC transfer, as well. I like my Starmax FE disc very much, but I'd upgrade for an improved transfer.

The reviewer seemed to imply that anyone who had previously bought this movie on DVD picked up a pirated copy. This is not the case. There have been at least two excellent releases of this movie in region 3, and they're not bootlegs.

I think the region 1 release is more for people who
A) don't have region-free players;
B) buy their movies at B&M stores

I held off on buying the R2 Tartan because I wanted to see how the R1 looked. All things being equal, R1 is preferred (since I can lend it to friends). But I'm region free, and I'm certainly not going to suffer so my borrowing friends benefit I wonder why Tartan would scale back the R1 version, other than for the double-dipping opportunity later? You'd think it would be less work to just duplicate the R2 version. I'm waiting on the same thing for the R1 of "Haute Tension", though since it's Lions Gate I'm not expected the R1 release for that to equal the UK R2.

Oldboy------which version ?

Go to www.koreandvds.com and order Oldboy ( HK Version ) Region 3,for $15.90 P+P extra.The ONLY version I know of which has DTS ES.Also DD 5.1.Both have selectable English subtitles but this disc does NOT include an English dubbed track ( thank God ) I`ve had my copy for months and can state that this is NOT a copy/pirate.Perfect anamorphic picture and pristine DTS ES 6.1 sound. A totally reliable supplier ! Get your credit cards out now and order befor they sell out !

Enjoy !!!!!!

Funny, I watched it last night as well after waiting a year to see this movie.

It was great! I've been thinking about it all day.

Just got finished looking at the movie, and the ending blew me away. What a great movie. I enjoyed it very much.
