Reccomend some great recent "unknown" films.

I recently picked up The Machinist, and the DVD included a trailer for what looks to me to be a fantastic flick. Just by seeing the trailer, I knew that I had to go out and find it, and buy it. After looking up reviews for the DVD and the movie itself, it looks like I'm right in thinking I should look into it.

The movie I'm talking about is Mean Creek.

What other "unknown" gems that have been released in the past few years do you think that I should check out?

I saw a trailer for Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself last year, but I still haven't picked it up. Have any of you seen that one?

I'll get this started with a pick of my own:

Interstate 60

well regarding meen creek
Spoiler:
if you saw what was ultimatly the theatrical trailer, you saw the movie, as they give the entire thing away
its still a good movie, but the trailer is basically the entire movie in 2 minutes.

I rather enjoyed two movies no one ever seems to mention in threads like these: The Settlement with John C. Reilly and Chasing Sleep with Jeff Daniels. Both on DVD, check 'em out.

I've never seen The Settlement, but I have seen and own Chasing Sleep. It really is a fantastic, weird, film.

Another one I loved, and it is talked about a little bit but not as much as I think it should be, is Tape. If not for the film itself, then at least see it for the concept.

Tape made me think of another one, Final with Denis Leary. I thought it was going to be some douchy indy sci-fi thing but it turned out pretty good.

You may enjoy a movie called "The Jacket"

I liked it, it's a different take on the theme of the movie, i'm not going to say much but check it out.

I thought Wilbur was a really good movie. A few other movies that you may have missed that I would recommend:

The Return
I'm Not Scared
Noi
The Mother
Oldboy - This may not actually be out just yet
In My Country

more well received, but very highly recommended from me would also be
A Very Long Engagement

There is conflicting info but the following lists anamorphic (doesn't necessarily mean it is unfortunately).

One of the best "small" movies of the past year was UNDERTOW - well-crafted and suspenseful all the way!

I wrote the author of the DVD Times review, Daniel Stephens, and he confirmed that the Interstate 60 R1 DVD, UPC 025192382420, is definitely anamorphic so that is good news.

Holy crap, I've been waiting for that to hit DVD for a long time. How come no one is talking about this release? Are there any reviews for it anywhere yet?

*goes off to find the best price for the DVD*

You posted in that thread too. Have no idea why there are no reviews out for it that I can find.

As usual, DDD seems to have the best price.

It actually appears to have been given a decent release with a couple of commentaries/featurettes.

I totally forgot about that thread, it's been so long ago.

I bought Mean Creek off of eBay for $10/free shipping using Buy It Now, and I got it today. I'll sit down and watch that one pretty soon.
